The NBR received nearly Tk 2.08 billion in income tax on Wednesday, the first day of the fair

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has selected 84 families across the country for the award of ‘Kar Bahadur Paribar’ this year.

All the eligible members of these 84 families had duly submitted income tax return.

The NBR, however, has failed to pick out such families from hill districts Rangamati and Khagrachhari.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith two days ago gave his consent to NBR’s proposal for giving the award to the 84 families during the ongoing Income Tax Fair across the country.

In his 2017-18 FY budget speech, the Finance Minister mentioned that the government had decided to give honourary certificate, titled ‘Kar Bahadur Paribar’, to tax friendly families.

The NBR conducted a survey across the country to select the families who submitted income tax return in due time. Sixteen families were selected from Dhaka, eight from Chittagong while the other 62 families were selected from the remaining 62 districts.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith will hand over the crests and certificates to these families on November 8, the last day of the seven-day Income Tax Fair 2017.

The week-long tax fair kicked off simultaneously in eight divisional headquarters on last Wednesday. It will be held for four days in 56 upazilas, for two days in 34 upazilas. A one-day mobile fair will also be held in 71 upazilas.

Taxpayers in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet are now getting tax identity cards after submission of their respective tax returns in the fair. The NBR will issue a machine-generated card containing the taxpayer’s name, taxpayer identification number (TIN) and quick response code (QR code) in favour of the taxpayers for the first time.

The NBR received nearly Tk 2.08 billion in income tax on Wednesday, the first day of the fair.
